Three Passive Barriers I Use to Counter Consumerism - I'm resisting the urge to buy tonnes of stuff when I travel this year by only taking a carryon with me. I already know how I like to travel and that means experiences. I remember hanging out with friends, I remember the meals we ate, I don't so much remember things I've bought. That being said, I'd be disappointed if I didn't come away from NYC with at least one item to remember it by. I'm thinking either footwear or a nice jacket. Preferably used/vintage. XD

Oooh and speaking of the trip, did you know you can save a Google map to your Google profile? Last night I started saving different places I'd like to visit in NYC. Then you can select two plotted locations on your map, choose how you'd like to travel (driving yourself, walking, public transportation etc. ), click a button and Pow! Options for getting from point A to point B will be given to you! D: It's AMAZING! I was told what subways to take, which busses, etc. and it even had the TIME it would take to get there and how long you had to make a connection.

Guys, this has me eyeballing an iPhone or Android in a very covetous way.

City first in Canada to commit to 'age-friendly' environment - This doesn't surprise me at all. The Boomers have influenced (warped) the world around them since their conception. As the generation ages I'm not at all surprised there will suddenly be a push to respect seniors and services for seniors will explode. If you want job security get into geriatric care, now. Also, I am in favour of respecting seniors.

Seth Aaron in Marie Claire - I still love his collection. That plaid dress and the suit jacket with the leather piping details down the front... unf.

Getting ready for a web site redesign

I found two more links that might be of interest to my flist!!

There Ain't No Famewhore Like a Gay Famewhore - There's a version of that Housewives of _____ show coming out that features gay dudes! *glee* And my favourite television/fashion bloggers are going to be covering it.

Super Delicious Ingredient Force: Episode 1 - I will be disappointed if this commercial doesn't win an award. It apes the old super hero cartoons SO WELL! There's even a public service message towards the end!

And an old link I'm posting here again so I don't forget about it! The Photojojo store

AHahha I'm up to my eyeballs in coding work right now but I still came across some interesting stuff while eating my lunch.

Visualizing the BP Oil Spill Disaster This interesting site takes the a map of the oil spill and superimposes it over where you live. D: It really gives you a concrete scope of how big it is.

In the comments of this article about How To Not Look Like Crap When It's Hot I found mentions of two very useful products!

From Lush.ca:
SILKY UNDERWEAR DUSTING POWDER - I'm not fussy about jasmine so I dug deeper into the site and found...
HONEY BEEHAVE dusting powder. UNF! Yes, I can smell faintly of honey. I like smelling edible as opposed to floral.

This product: T FOR TOES also seems like a really good idea for the summer! Not saying my feet smell as if they've zombified in the summer but I'd be lying if I said they're fresh as daisies.

But the product that (potentially) will revolutionize summer for me?
Monistat Soothing Care Chafing Relief Powder-Gel

"Prevents chafing and irritation caused by moisture, heat, and movement. Ideal for treating everyday intimate discomforts of athletes, plus-size women, new moms, and bikini area waxers or shavers"

Also:

"Non-irritating formula with Vitamin E and soothing Aloe. Gentle enough for daily use on even your most delicate areas"

I... I could wear skirts and dresses this summer if I used this product!

See, no matter how skinny I get, my thighs rub together. Even as a little girl the tops of my thighs rubbed because I am a bit, how do they say it, pigeon-toed. Usually I solve this problem by wearing a pair of shorts or Spanx under my dress/skirt but in the summer who needs that extra layer heating them up?

Guys! I'm going to see if my local drug store carries this tonight and try it out tomorrow if I can get my hands on some!

I know I posted a link to HollabackNYC before but here's some more interesting stuff related to street harassment and how ladies are fighting back.

iHollaback app has received more than enough funding to develop an app for the iPhone that will help ladies get photos of their harassers online as harassment happens.

The Jezebel article that turned me onto hollabackNYC and JFC the comments... Even in a space for women there are men who just don't see their own privilege.

Retweeted by @jetbaby we have a blog post with a very typical female experience with street harassment and a link/review to a revenge scenario game where you can shoot street harassers!

Now as lovely as the thought of being powerful enough to fight back in any small measure, let alone shooting an oppressor, is what I hope more than anything else is that men play this game and get a bit of the experience women face every single time we go out in public.

I've been harassed. I've been stalked. I've had creeps grope me in public. I and most women dealt with this since we were girls. I'd love to be able to wear a dress outside and not hesitate before putting it on because I KNOW it will attract unwanted attention. Possibly violent/dangerous attention through ZERO fault of my own.

Pisses. Me. Off.

Speaking of being pissed off, if you're not in the mood to seethe with rage don't read the comments on the sites I've linked to.
