[Training Log] A Sunday filled with food!
Jan. 24th, 2011 08:49 amIt seems like I spent most of yesterday cleaning the kitchen, planning and preparing meals, and finally eating.
For the curious, here's what all I had to eat to follow my plan and get in 1900 calories:
The egg white, chicken breast, peppers, garlic, and spinach all came together in what was supposed to be an omelet but what ended up as scrambled eggs.
The chicken breast:
- thawed and cut into strips then marinated in lemon juice, smoked paprika (unf), and chili flakes
- I cooked it on my new grill
The French cut green beans were lightly steamed in the microwave and served with a pinch of kosher salt.
The rest of the ingredients came together in a salad. The balsamic vinegar with the blueberries on my spinach is SO GOOD! You get bitter, tangy, and sweet all in one bowl.
For a bit of perspective, I ate 1 1/2 chicken breasts, a big fistful of beans, and the salad was made in a mixing bowl it was so big.
I slice the banana up and pour the yogurt over top.
Really straightforward. I saute the onion on low heat adding a bit of water or a splash of rice wine then sprinkle some smoked paprika on. I steam the carrots in the microwave and add them to the onions to saute for five minutes or so; so the carrots caramelize a bit, too.
Same as the afternoon snack but with blueberries added to make sure I meet my fruit allowance. I ate the sunflower seed butter straight off my spoon. XD
My final results were that I fell short of my Protein calories by one and went over my Fat/Dairy by ten but it's still way closer to where I'm supposed to be than I've been all week.
The measurements might seem strange but that's because I have a kitchen scale and www.calorieking.com to calculate my calories. Working with my trainer means being as exact as possible; I cannot be more than 30 calories off from my daily total. I know it may seem strict but I'm actually given a lot of leeway with what I can eat, as long as I get my totals for each category of calorie. (As you can see, I'm not starving myself.) And, really, it's 12 weeks out of my life. I managed the program two years ago without cheating once, I can do it again. The long-term benefits really do outweigh the immediate pleasure I'd get out of cheating.
Which leads me into a little rant.
When I say I'm dieting or that I've hired a trainer it isn't just to hear myself crow. I'm communicating this because I want the people around me to note it and NOT try to undermine my efforts. I have invested $600 in hiring a private trainer for three months, I do not want to waste my money or her time by straying off the program she has me on.
I also get upset when people tell me to cheat because what's more important to me, dieting or being social with them? Srsly. Don't even go there. It isn't that dieting is more important than visiting it's the insistence we go someplace that cannot accommodate my current eating habits and that I MUST partake of the same thing everyone else is. Peer pressure couldn't get me to smoke, drink, do drugs, or have casual sex. Don't for an instant think you can influence me that way.
If I choose to order a diet cola and a salad and just enjoy your company then, please, don't pester me to eat more or try 'just a bite' of what you are eating. The restaurant either has no other option I can eat or I have calculated exactly what I need to order and eat.
(I would like to thank my bff and her mom for not questioning this! In fact, my bff reminded me I can't have wheat. THANK YOU W! Also, Earl's restaurants? You guys have the BEST mixed field greens salad! The apple slivers, candied pecans, and vinaigrette you use are amazing on the organic field greens.)
...that being said, thank you to the friends and family that let me smell their food or alcoholic beverages. XD I know I'm a strange little duck. I may not be able to eat or drink a lot of the stuff I used to but a quick smell is enough that I can remember what it's like and can share in the enjoyment.
I'm no stranger to having to alter what I can eat when I go out so it's pretty easy for me to dig my heels in. I'm curious, how do you guys stick to your guns at social meals and make sure you're not eating something you're not supposed to? And have you ever lost a friend or made an enemy out of a family member by doing so?
